Ukraine, the 1990s. A young man nicknamed “Rhino” starts off as a petty thief and quickly works his way up the criminal hierarchy. Power and cruelty is his motto. He has nothing to lose. But what is it he is trying to come to grips with? A story about a man who bears an internal burden. Will he finally find a chance for redemption?
Oleh Sentsov Ukrainian filmmaker and writer, kidnapped in Crimea by the Russian secret service in 2014, taken to Russia and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for alleged terrorist activities. He was released in September 2019, also thanks to numerous protests from the international filmmaking community. He debuted with the film “Gamer”, which was very successful at film festivals. He wrote a novel and a collection of short stories in prison, and also directed the film “Numbers”, which was screened at the Berlinale 2020. His third feature film, “Rhino”, had its world premiere in September 2021 in Venice, in the Orizzonti section.
