The Isle
"The Isle" is Kim Ki-duk's fourth film and the first one to receive wide international acclaim for his famous recognizable style. Hee-Jin (Seo Jung) works in a fishing spot isolated from the world and takes care of small fishing huts that seem to float like islands on a reservoir. Occasionally, she also prostitutes herself to the fishermen. One day, a man comes. He is full of a sense of despair and estrangement. Hee-Jin has her own streak of rustic madness.
"The Isle" is the place we all long for, but we run away from there as we get bored with it. Thus, a man's isle is a woman and a woman's isle is a man." - Kim Ki-duk
