On the edge of frozen wastelands, the members of a scientific researchstation are decimated by the “thing” from another world, a kind of virus and a terrifying creature. John Carpenter took a story by Howard Hawks and inserted his own ingredients, coupling this with his excellent mastery of Cinemascope and his sense of invention. Many consider this 1980s film as the John Carpenter master work.
